The Hamburg-Altona long-distance train station will replace the existing Altona station, one of the key in the country: only the city train lines will remain there. The architects for it were chosen from 13 teams as a result of a closed competition. The rivals of the first prize-winning Danes C. F. Møller were, among others, the Hamburgers gmp, the Dutch MVRDV and UNStudio.
The new station will be located in the base, and two towers are planned above - a hotel and offices. There is also a green, exploitable roof over the base and a protected area for farmers' markets, celebrations, etc. The hotel and office building will have their own awning spaces on this roof; in addition, their roofs are also planned to be greened. The infrastructure of the complex includes a parking lot for bicycles, cafes, shops, a fitness center. The total area of the project is 46.5 thousand m2. The new station is due to open in 2023.
