The London Wall Place complex of two office buildings is located in the City of London, for which its public gardens are the largest such project since the construction of the Barbican. In addition, as part of the Make Architects concept, elevated corten steel and iroko wood walkways have been added to connect the Barbican to the rest of the City. These bridges with a total area of 350 m2 were a prerequisite for the approval of the project, as they "recreate" similar transitions that existed here in the 1960s.
In addition to the ideas of modernism, the complex pays tribute to the ancient history of London: the Roman wall for the first time in many years is accessible for inspection, as well as the remains of the medieval tower of the Church of St. Alphege that has not survived to us.
An important development was the emergence of a series of public green spaces associated with the neighboring gardens of St Alfege and Salters Hall. Green areas occupy 6000 m2 in London Wall Place, and green walls - 780 m2. Among the plants planted there are strawberries, lavender, ivy. New spaces include a water garden, a cascade, and an amphitheater. They should cheer up five thousand office workers in two buildings, as well as visitors to cafes and shops, residents of the Barbican and passengers of the future Crossrail station.
The architects also proposed to narrow the adjacent London Wall, a busy highway with a wide median strip, with more room for pedestrians and cyclists.
Building number one is 13 stories high and includes nine roof terraces; the second building, a 17-storey tower, houses shops and restaurants on the two lower tiers. The facades are covered with rectangular gray glass fiber reinforced concrete panels and dark blue ceramic profiles. The former are reminiscent of the whitish surface of the Kent limestone, which was used in the construction of the Roman wall, and the latter, of its smooth chipping. The stripes of facades continue on the ceiling of the lobby in tower 2 and on the lower surface of the cantilever extension in the first building. The total area of the buildings is 46 450 m2.
