The jury named among the reasons for the victory of the Hadid option - the architect's attention to the environment of the future building, its consistency with the nature of the Gulf of Cagliari and with the development of the embankment of the capital of Sardinia. The new museum looks like a "coral reef", forcing to rethink the entire face of this stretch of coastline, giving it energy and symbolizing the renewal of Cagliari. Its dynamic forms reflect the main idea of the building, based on the interaction of artifacts of the ancient Nuraghe (Nuraghe) culture and works of modern art, as well as exhibits and visitors.
The theme of the museum, dedicated to the first - creative - steps of man on the island of Sardinia and the modern stage of the development of art, determines its future role as a symbol of the past and future in the culture of the region.
The jury, which included representatives of the Domus magazine and the Polytechnic Institute in Milan, also highly appreciated the projects of the workshops Herzog & de Meuron, Archea, as well as the architect Lanyese.
