The event is preceded by the Open City Festival, organized by the Moscow Architecture Committee and dedicated to architecture education. The festival will take place in October 2019. Teams of MGSU, MITU-MASI, GUZ, B&D Institute and RANEPA competed in the presentation of projects that increase the level of mutual understanding in the city.

Slam is such a battle. Verbal non-standard presentation on the stage of an architectural project. Before the start of the competition Tamila Kandaurova, producer of the Open City, revealed the idea of an unusual competition. Many have noticed that the level of love in the city has increased after the World Cup 2018 and with the advent of Zaryadye Park. Inspired by this, the Moskomarkhitektura offered students to participate in the slam - "Love in the Big City", calling it by analogy with the famous TV series. The competition was organized as performances of teams from different universities, after which they were asked questions by members of the jury and rivals from other teams.

The jury members gave instructions to the teams. In particular, Aleksandr Ostrogorsky recalled aphorisms about love, connecting them with architecture. "Love is the desire to touch." Do you often want to touch architecture? In MARSH, such a task is set. "Love is a relationship, and relationships are a lot of work."

Big Warm Piece / Winners: 1st place

The team of the State University of Land Management, the State University of Land Management, consisted almost entirely of boys (you can immediately see that the university has a military department) and showed a real architectural project for communication between the residents of the courtyard. It is called the Big Warm Piece - BTSh, it is a 5 x 5 m cube, inside there is a 270 cm high floor with a mezzanine of 230 cm. The cube is similar to the boxes that are put on the biennale and in the courtyards of museums: with a perforated wall, with stained-glass windows that open in summer. Here residents of the house can get acquainted, use Wi-Fi, local social networks. Access is carried out by a key card, which is only for residents of the house. The guys showed the model and details of the perforated wall almost in full size. Everyone liked the idea, the project won first place.

The space is really pretty. But gratuitousness is confusing. And the janitor cleaning the HSP once a day seems to be insufficient. An anti-cafe with a cheap entrance would be more realistic. Because for comfort you need coffee, tea and a toilet, which means people who look after cleanliness and order throughout the day. Or, if all residents of the HOA vote for HTS, you can register the costs of it as a concierge cost. For the courtyard of a large house, an HTS 8 x 8 m option is provided.

City horoscope / 2nd place

The project of the Institute of Business and Design was made under the guidance of the architect and teacher Vlad Savinkin. This is a donut-shaped bench made of 12 block segments that ride on wheels.

You can sit both outside the donut and inside. In the very center there is a rotating compass needle. Those who are sitting inside the donut facing each other and are in the mood for communication can twist this arrow (for clarity, the students gathered in a circle twisted a plastic bottle). Those who do not want to communicate can settle down with a laptop on the outside of the donut. There is also an option to divide the bagel into separate islands. An excellent bench for the improvement of an urban or exhibition space - even now in implementation.

No choice - clean your balcony! / 3rd place

Students of MITU - MASI showed a bright presentation in the style of KVN: the presenter, made up like the mayor of Moscow, dancing and rap to the immortal hit Freddie Mercury. The presentation was called BALCONY. The idea is that the balcony is the face of your apartment and part of the urban space. If the balcony is improved (cleaned of rubbish), the city will be transformed. Looking ahead, I will say that this slam did not win the first place, because he, rather, did not offer a social and architectural project itself (well, that is, he offered examples of improving the balcony). But if such a project takes place, its impact on the architecture of Russian cities will be enormous. This will be the architecture of non-architects.

Why are the residential areas of Oslo, Paris and Milan so beautiful? Beautiful balconies with greenery, tables and chairs, with residents resting there. The amount of positiveness, courtesy (love in the city) grows sharply. I would even say that the image of the country is changing. I believe that in the West you can get a fine for rubbish on the balcony, as well as for an unmown lawn and other ugliness. Perhaps this will be the next step of Mayor Sobyanin and mayors of other cities, and our people will begin and get used to decorating balconies, as motorists began to let pedestrians pass twenty years ago.

Oxytocin, endorphin, serotonin and dopamine / 4th place

Happiness - and love as a variant - is expressed in four hormones. This was the beginning of the presentation of the RANEPA student, their group included a sociologist and a lawyer, they showed a study, not an architectural project. Happiness and longevity depend on family, friends, environment, and also on triangulation - contact with strangers. To ensure it, you need an accessibility of the environment, security, openness, and clarity of planning.

Landscaping and storm drains are responsible for comfort. Self-release of residents on the street is carried out with the help of chess, swings, art objects. As a symbol, they showed a tower in Sweden, which changes colors depending on the mood of residents (through an application in an iPhone, you can transmit information about your mood).

Love as restoration of unity / 5th place

The NRU - MGSU team proposed a mobile structure in the courtyard, which can be transformed into a summer cinema, a dance floor, a cooking class, a flea market, a podium for table tennis. The structure itself can be a platform with an awning, a container. The construction spends two weeks in each courtyard, then moves to the next. Before installing the site, residents are interviewed about what they want to see in their yard. The idea is quite sensible, confused only by the offer of exchange of skills: a housewife teaches a carpenter to bake pies, and he teaches her to repair stools. Why waste your life acquiring unnecessary skills when you can exchange a product? In the video presentation, students used the image of borscht. That is, a yard without a site, residents and architects is borscht without salt and a spoon, it is impossible to consume.

The first place was taken by Bolshaya Warm Stuck (GUZ), the second - the City Horoscope bench (Institute of Business and Design), the third - the idea of improving balconies (MITU - MASI). The main criterion for the jury was still the presence of an architectural project (with, in fact, a traditional architectural presentation), and not the originality of the performance. The second place was taken by a design project, which is also visually convincing and does not require long introductions, but the bright presentation did not help the brilliant, in my opinion, idea with balconies, addressed to officials and residents, which did not involve the participation of architects. The winners received a Soft Culture card with a face value, which can be used to pay for the selected course of study in whole or in part.
