As a rule, landscaping is possible only for roofs whose slope angle does not exceed 35 °. Steeper slopes require special technological solutions. GF Victoria's green slopes are over 30 m long and 45 ° inclined, so it took courage and precision engineering to tackle the greening problem. The main problem was to ensure the stability of the landscaped roof, to neutralize and correctly distribute the weight of the green roof system, to prevent the soil and plants from sliding along the substructure.
To solve these problems, ZinCo's "Sloped Roof System with a Slope of More than 20 °" was chosen.
A SIKA anti-slip and anti-corrosion waterproofing membrane was installed on the floor slab, on top of which more than 700 LF 300 elements from ZinCo were installed. They form the basis for subsequent layers, distributing their weight over the roof surface and also preventing slipping. Next, a WSM 150 coating was laid, which provides a supply of water for the normal life of the plants. The retaining barriers have been completed with TRP 80 cornice profiles, which are supported by LF 300 support pillars.
ZinCo Georaster elements form the basis of the “ZinCo Sloped Roof System with a slope of more than 20 °”. The roots of mature plants hold the soil securely, but to avoid erosion of the substrate immediately after planting, a biodegradable organic stabilizer and coconut fiber mesh were used.
For the greening of the hotel's roof, vegetation with a high resistance to drying out and the southern level of solar radiation was chosen. These are aromatic plants such as lavender and thyme, as well as native Canarian plants, including evergreens. The plants were distributed over the roof according to their water requirements and also according to their decorative qualities.
Despite careful selection of plants adapted to the difficult climate of Tenerife, it was decided to install an irrigation system on the roof. It provides a milder adaptation period for young plants, and also protects them during drought.
This sophisticated and spectacular roof was installed by Impermeabilizaciones Machado, SLU, ZinCo's representative in the Canary Islands. This unique project is likely to become a benchmark for the future development of green roofs in Spain and abroad. Material provided by the company "Tsinko RUS"
