A new quarter is being formed on the famous Canal Street: it will include historic warehouses along the canal, a 1964 concrete residential tower and five new buildings. Prior to that, this site was occupied by the University of Manchester-Metropolitan, hence the name KAMPUS.
A diverse environment of old and new buildings will be complemented by abundant landscaping and commercial establishments in the glazed ground floors. A unified interpretation of the "pedestrian level" at the new buildings and towers will give the quarter a unified image and make it stand out when viewed from the surrounding streets.
The lower floors and endings of new buildings are covered with profiled metal. But the main part of the facades will be brick, with "rough" masonry, reminiscent of the historical buildings nearby. Its texture will be emphasized by smooth white “pixel” inserts.
The total area of the project will be 44,000 m2. Construction began in 2017 and will be completed in 2020.
