Gallie Craig Coffee House Is a unique seaside café in the southernmost tip of Scotland. It seems to be carved into a sheer rock, vertically descending into the sea. The building is surprisingly harmonious with the landscape: its green roof is designed in such a way that it is almost impossible to distinguish it from the surrounding meadows. Numerous tourists treasure the unique beauty and tranquility of this area, and they gladly visit the cozy coffee shop.
The cliffs on which the cafe was built in 2004 belong to the Mull of Galloway nature reserve, which is carefully protected by the state. Hilly territory, abruptly breaking off by the sea, endless emerald meadows and silky sea heather, meandering in waves under the gusts of wind, attract many tourists with its pristine beauty. For them, the coffee shop was designed, literally built into the natural landscape. Depending on the weather, visitors can enjoy coffee and views directly from the outdoor terrace or from the inside through the glass panoramic façade.
Since the green roof of the cafe was supposed to connect seamlessly with the surrounding moorlands, and at the same time possess modern protective properties, the creators decided to turn to the development of the ZinCo company - the Floradrain FD 40 roofing system. mat. Then the builders installed the Floradrain drainage and storage element and added a special Zincolit clay tile backing to better collect rainwater. The harmonious green space is equipped with an additional irrigation system, and all parts of the ZinCo system have become the ideal basis for growing the necessary plants.
This design could not go unnoticed. The next year after the construction was very pleasant for the owner of the cafe: Harvey Sloan was named Scotland's Person of the Year for his pioneering example of what modern commercial buildings should look like. And its innovative design has won the Green Apple Awards, which recognizes the best environmental projects around the world.
