The 11 Spassky business center on Ryleeva Street is one of the few public buildings in St. Petersburg that have received the LEED Gold certificate. Even more unusual is that the historic building was brought up to high environmental standards - after reconstruction, of course. Velux played an important role in achieving this goal, whose specialists helped to calculate the coefficient of natural light using the VELUX VIZ program and selected the optimal window models.

The three-story stone building in the classical style was built on the former Spasskaya Street in the 1870s-1880s, before the revolution it was under the jurisdiction of the Preobrazhensky Regiment. Modern architects were faced with the task of increasing the usable area without building an additional floor. To do this, the basement was deepened, and the attic was transformed into an attic, lowering the ceiling and raising the ridge of the roof by one meter. In the attic floor, the classic Velux GGL 3070 models and double-glazed windows GGL3068 on the north side were installed. For the skate, two models of rooflights were selected: deaf CFP and with remote opening CVP. The floor and wall structures were replaced with a metal frame. A lobby with a reception area and an elevator appeared on the site of the former carriage passage.

To reduce the load on ventilation and air conditioning systems in the summer, as well as to save the inhabitants of the attic from excessive exposure to direct sunlight, awnings were additionally installed on the windows on the south side - special sun-protection accessories that almost completely prevent the penetration of solar energy, while providing a sufficient amount of natural scattered light. Together with natural ventilation, such measures can significantly reduce the operating costs of the building and create a comfortable microclimate in the room, which in turn increases the building's LEED rating.

Environmental materials and energy-efficient technical solutions, which Sergey Tsytsin's workshop includes in most of its projects, helped to receive the LEED Gold certificate and the Zodchestvo-2019 silver award in the nomination “Best Sustainable Construction Project”. With the help of climate control systems, lighting control, ventilation and air conditioning monitoring, energy consumption and maintenance costs of engineering equipment are reduced.

Velux windows are involved in creating a healthy indoor microclimate and a comfortable working environment, being responsible for the following indicators:

  • natural lighting of premises, its intensity and duration;
  • natural ventilation of premises;
  • control of room overheating due to direct sunlight;
  • ventilation and air conditioning costs.
