Powerhouse Telemark was built in the former province of Telemark, where one of the first hydroelectric power plants appeared in the 19th century. Therefore, the architects believe their building continues this tradition of clean energy innovation.

About the first complex of the Powerhouse series

we wrote here: it appeared back in 2014, and since then, the level of energy efficiency has increased for each new facility. The building in Porsgrunn consumes 70% less than the average office building - 11 floors, with a total area of almost 8,000 m2.

Solar panels (1482 m2) are placed on the roof, specially sloped to increase its area and on the southeastern façade, which produce 256,000 kilowatt-hours per year. For comparison, 20 average Norwegian households consume that much. Powerhouse Telemark needs less electricity, so the surplus will be sold to the local grid.

Wooden slats protect the building from overheating: behind them there are facade panels and three-layer glazing. Cooling and heating of the premises is provided by a heat pump with wells 350 m deep. Glazed openings in the roof provide the three upper floors with sunlight, natural light (and electricity savings) also contribute to the light colors and surfaces in the interior.

Materials in the interior have been chosen to be durable (local wood, drywall, concrete surfaces left untreated and "masked"), including recycled ones. For example, the carpet is former fishing nets, and industrial parquet is made from wood waste.

Functionally, the building is also “stable”: all parts, partitions, kitchen and sanitary equipment, fittings are standardized, the same models are used throughout the building. Offices, especially two floors of co-working, are easy to adapt to any space the tenant needs, and he does not have to move if he decides to expand or reduce the staff of his company. The infrastructure includes a barception - a cross between a bar and a reception desk, a canteen for employees, meeting rooms in the "penthouse" and a roof terrace overlooking the fjord.
