Eleven villas near the Great Wall of China were built by the best architects of East Asia - Shigeru Ban, Kengo Kuma, Yun Ho Chan and others. The twelfth house, a community center with a corten steel façade, was designed by South Korean architect Sun-Ho-San. The construction was completed in 2002 and the ensemble received an award at the same time at the Venice Architecture Biennale.
This project was intended to demonstrate to the whole world that not only purely commercial architecture can be created in China - that the high quality of the project is feasible and in demand there.
But after the announcement of the sale, it becomes clear that in China the work of a talented architect remains a luxury item.
The new owners are going to add 37 more villas to the ensemble. In total, the hotel complex will be designed for 265 guests.
