Its authors are the architects of the MVRDV workshop. The natural solution to the extension to the main art museum of the city was to use the form of a frame for the picture. Its lower part is sunk into the ground, and there will be an underground garage. The fact is that due to the very high level of groundwater in the Netherlands, this room is not suitable for storing works of art, which will be placed in the upper part of the "frame", along with the administrative premises.
Seen from the side, the new building will also resemble a giant table set up in the park of the museum, a kind of modern sculpture. Thus, the ensemble will retain its character of an open, public space, and the Boijmans-van Beuningen Museum will receive the space it needs for storing exhibits. The building is planned to be erected by 2010.
