The building is located in the municipal district of Alstajug, on the banks of the fjord, next to the church where Dass was the parish priest.

The area is renowned for the beauty of its landscapes; it was also necessary to preserve the natural landscape intact due to its historical significance, as it is inextricably linked with the monuments of medieval Norwegian architecture located there. Therefore, the architects decided to remove some of the soil from the hill that separates the church from the seashore, creating a kind of artificial ravine. There, a museum building was erected, the volume of which roughly corresponds to the size of the mass of land excavated in preparing the site for construction.

An elongated concrete volume on a glass base is placed in a 15.5 m wide "gorge". There is a gap of only 2 m between the walls of this ravine and the walls of the museum, but it will still allow visitors to walk around the building. The ends of the building are glazed, through one panoramic wall there is a view of the sea and the sky, through the other - to the medieval church of Alstajoug. Thus, the museum brings together two sources of inspiration for Petter Dass, known for his poetic descriptions of his home country and religious hymns: the nature of Norway and faith in God.

The project is emphatically modern, its forms can even be called expressive, at the same time, the laconicism of its architectural composition connects it with the surrounding landscape and architecture of the neighboring church. The architects wanted to make their museum a bridge that would connect modernity and the 17th century - the era of Petter Dass for modern people.
