It is located in the quarter of expensive Omotesando stores, but differs from most of the boutiques located there: if they most often offer clothes and accessories of one brand, then Gyre, which means "hurricane" in Japanese, brings together a dozen different stores and cafes located on five floors of the building.

The name of the building is reflected in its formal solution: its volume is formed by a "stack" of rectangular blocks-terraces, slightly shifted in different directions relative to each other. Thus, the building vigorously rises upward, as if twisting around its axis. Also, the vertical direction of movement is the main one for visitors to the center: for this, the architects suggest that they use the stairs and elevators located outside the Gyre. In the center of the building is an atrium called the "hurricane eye". It not only visually unites different levels of the building, but also serves as an exhibition space for a single exhibit: it will be one or another work of art (most often a photograph), the image of which will be duplicated by LCD screens placed throughout the shopping complex.

The outer walls of the building and the ceilings in the interior are tiled with special ceramic tiles. The floor is covered with faux wood panels. The pride of MVRDV architects is the earthquake-resistant structure of the building.
