The welcome speech, anticipating the ceremony, said a lot about tradition: a traditional banquet, traditional sponsors, despite the crisis, the traditional order of awards, alphabetically, the traditional character of the catalog and its sections - residential and public buildings, interiors, country houses and experimental architecture. Such an emphasis on stability now, during the crisis, looks more advantageous than prim. Although, nevertheless, some innovations, however, already for the next catalog, were promised. This is the addition of a new section - urban planning, which the organizers hope will be a great success.
The current catalog is divided into the four above-mentioned sections, which show the buildings of architects and architectural bureaus from all over Russia: from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Sochi, Anapa. Among them there are very famous names that have already received the "golden trowel" for the 5th or even 6th time. There are also completely unknown ones. Among other things, the organizers of the award take credit for discovering new names and giving them a chance to gain recognition in professional circles.
It is hard not to notice that the next catalog includes buildings that are both relatively new and quite old. For example, the restaurant "95 degrees" by Alexander Brodsky went through its furor probably six or seven years ago. The Meganoma House in Molochny Lane was built five years ago and has been listed in the classics of our time ever since. Sergei Tchoban's "Benois House" has also sounded and was published everywhere for two or three years already. There are, of course, newer things: last year's House by the Sea and Le Grand (Sergei Tchoban and Evgeny Gerasimov; Evgeny Gerasimov), the ski complex of Mikhail Khazanov, and so on. But in general, it does not leave the impression that some archival buildings are going into battle, the pose is last year, which have consolidated their authority and do not need additional awards. Such a composition can hardly be called a cut of new buildings over the past year. And considering that the catalog is published annually, and also considering that the crisis is now and many projects and construction projects have been stopped, it’s scary to think about what will be published next year?
In a word, the composition of the buildings published in the catalog and awarded (as you know, all published trowels are received - how many objects, so many trowels) suggests that the compilers selected well-known and authoritative buildings for technologies. Each object included in the Quality Architecture catalog is supplied with a detailed description of the technologies used. At the same time, a remarkable architecture is chosen, and in general it turns out that you cannot build a decent house without good technology. This architectural and technological duality shows through in everything - in the composition of the guests invited to the award ceremony, in the welcoming words of the organizers and architects, in the symbolic "golden trowel", a building tool that is handed over to architects. From time to time it even became unclear what kind of quality was meant, artistic or technological, the quality of the project or the quality of the material. Although it is obvious that the ideal would be a harmonious combination of both.
What is not easy in our time of crisis - now architects, who have not so long ago become accustomed to expensive materials, are rapidly moving to cheaper prices, especially in terms of facades. In this situation, it is necessary to wait for the success of economical technologies, but it is difficult to say how to achieve "super-quality architecture", which President of the Union of Moscow Architects Viktor Logvinov spoke about at the awards ceremony.
