On December 21, the Museum of Architecture will open the exhibition “Architect of Power. On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Boris Iofan”. The exposition includes such works by this outstanding Soviet architect as the USSR pavilion for the 1937 International Exhibition in Paris, the House on the Embankment residential complex, the Udarnik cinema, the Barvikha health resort of the Kremlin Administration and many others. Of course, the curators and the most famous unrealized projects of Iofan - Moscow State University named after I. M. V. Lomonosov on Sparrow Hills (later served as the basis for the implemented project of Lev Rudnev) and, of course, the Palace of Soviets. The exhibition will run until mid-February next year, and a kind of preface to it will be the lecture "Stalin's neoclassicism", which will be delivered on December 21 by IA Kazus. On Wednesday, December 22, M. N. Sokolov's lecture on the history of the gardens will take place at the Central House of Architects. Landscape architecture will also be remembered in the Northern capital: on December 20, within the framework of the regular meeting of the Council for Landscape Architecture of St. Gunich. And on Thursday, the St. Petersburg House of Books will host a presentation of the monograph "Nikolai Vasiliev: From Art Nouveau to Modernism", dedicated to the work of a prominent Russian architect of the first half of the twentieth century.
Meanwhile, towards the end of the week, the architects will already begin to celebrate the approaching New Year, and they will do this at two sites at once. On Wednesday, the ARTPLAY Center invites to the "Architectural New Year", and on Friday a party called ARCHINEWYEAR is organized by the archipeople portal. In addition to the party itself, an award ceremony for contributions to social and socially significant projects in the field of architecture will be held as part of the holiday. And a kind of prelude to this event can be considered the exhibition "Christmas tree as an art object", which has already opened in the courtyard of the chocolate shop "Red October".
