We are talking about a new wing of an existing neoclassical building, so the architects tried to connect modernism with tradition: the beveled profile of the ceilings should resemble a gable roof, for the same purpose, the volume of the structure was made compact, able to fit into the historical development of the Frederiksberg suburb.
The project is intended to create an impression of openness combined with the seriousness and restraint necessary for the institution of the justice sector. However, it was more difficult to achieve transparency in the interior than on the façade: the architects were faced with updated security rules, requiring, among other things, a clear separation of individual zones of the court building from each other. To soften its appearance a little, a small atrium will be placed in the center, through which daylight will enter the interior of the premises of the "core" of the building; the fullness of the structure with light, combined with a clear plan, will help visitors easily navigate within it.
The new Frederiksberg courthouse, on which 3XN worked with engineers from Lemming & Eriksson and the Schønherr Landskab landscape office, will open in early 2012.
