The construction, the construction of which should begin in 2012, will appear in the city center, at the rear facade of the historical building of the theater and next to the classicist building of the Anatomical Theater of Karl Langhans (1790). Its appearance should structure the surrounding space, without overwhelming neighboring structures.
The jury noted the natural appearance of the building, despite its complex program: three rehearsal stages, administrative premises and a storage facility, which should improve the work of the German Theater from an organizational, technical and economic point of view. Also, the geometric volume of the building is at the same time consistent with the context and adds variety to the urban structure of this part of Berlin, its "plastic peace" and "pleasant clarity" are combined with the harsh rear facades of some buildings and the diversity of the historical appearance of others.
The project budget is almost 10 million euros.
The second place in the competition was taken by the AFF bureau, the third - by Stefan Braunfels.
