“For me, high-quality architecture is both the quality of the town-planning concept, and the quality of the design of an individual building, the quality of the elaboration of the function, everything, down to the details. The triad "Benefit, strength, beauty" has not been canceled. Strength, implied a priori, the response to the given function of the building and the quality of its implementation - this is the quality of architecture.
If you are interested in viewing a building from a distance of 500 meters, and 20 meters, and two meters. It's even better if you want to touch it, feel it by touch. It seems to me that this is evidence of the quality of the architecture. A building that attracts interest for one second when you drive past it is not enough. The building should be interesting at different levels of perception. Ideally, the building should be such that you want to draw it.
If the apartments in the house are completely sold out or the building is completely filled with tenants, this means that its function is thought out and it works well. This is also the quality of the building.
Above all, I value clarity in design. It should be very simple and very straightforward so that it doesn't need to be explained. For the ambiguity of the word - the ambiguity of thought, Chekhov said. Therefore, everything should be as simple as possible, as clear as possible and as high quality as possible.
In our projects, we are trying to achieve exactly simplicity, clarity of concept and the highest quality of their implementation.
I am sure that the architectural quality can be achieved in modern Russian conditions. But about some of my projects, I would not say that we have achieved it. As in cinema, for a film to be good, everything must match: the budget, the work of the producer, director, cameraman, actors, editors, sound technicians, drivers and staff on the set. It's the same in architecture. It must be, first of all, the desire of the customer. Accordingly, not a fight with an architect, but a synchronous work. An appropriate budget, because there is no such thing as cheap and good in architecture. Exceptions, as usual, only prove the rules. High-quality work of designers and builders is also required. When both the customer, the designer and the builder are focused precisely on quality, then if all three vectors coincide and they are in the same direction, then a high-quality building can and will be obtained."
