The architect won the relevant competition back in 2003, but the project was constantly delayed, in particular, due to the search for a developer. The station building is thrown across the tracks, like a bridge, so it will play the role of a bridge: it will connect the two halves of the park, which will be smashed around. This green area will host high-tech and agricultural laboratories and research centers, sports facilities and an exhibition complex. This large-scale construction should revitalize the economy of both Afragola, the city within the borders of Greater Naples and the site of the station, as well as the surrounding settlements.
The station will have two entrances - from the east and west - between which passenger traffic will be directed through a block of shops to a waiting room connected to the main atrium and open to the surrounding landscape through huge windows.
The openings in the facades of glass and metal are arranged in such a way that in winter maximum sunlight gets into the interior from the south side, and in summer - the required amount of lighting from the north.
The opening of the station is scheduled for October 2011. Its budget is 74 million euros.
