The distinguished architect, who passed away in 2005, has been working on this project since the mid-1990s. Then the community of the Protestant Cathedral of Hope turned to him, gathering to build a new temple. Johnson planned, in addition to a large-scale Christian church, a small chapel for believers of all denominations, fenced off from the cathedral by the wall of the belfry. This belfry, consecrated in 2000, and the Chapel of Peace were the only completed project elements.
The building forms are sustained in line with expressionism. In plan, it slightly resembles a fish, the original Christian symbol, but otherwise it is a completely abstract structure, deliberately devoid of any cultural allusions - and any inscriptions and works of art in the interior. This small space is illuminated through a window in the ceilings at the end of the building opposite from the entrance, where a small elevation is arranged. The main space can accommodate no more than 175 people; in the basement there are utility rooms, including numerous sacristies for representatives of those denominations that plan to use the chapel (among them - Zen Buddhists, Hindus and Catholics).
