The center is located in the building of the theater of the same name - Théâtre de la Gaîté lyrique, founded in 1862. It existed there until the end of the 1980s, when an entertainment center was opened in its place. It turned out to be of little popularity and was closed in 1991. But they did not forget about the theater: Bertrand Delano, immediately after his election as mayor of Paris in 2001, took up the revival of this institution, important for French culture.

It was decided to transform it into a reflection of the youngest sphere of contemporary art - the sphere of digital technologies. Since it is with them that the most important changes in the world around us are associated, it is important not to forget about their impact on culture. Therefore, the organizers invite the audience to La Gaîté lyrique to "experience life" anew.

Manuel Gotran was commissioned to adapt 7 floors of the building in the spirit of eclecticism with partially preserved interiors for a new purpose. The halls with a total area of 9,700 m2 have become a place for experimenting with new technologies in all areas of digital culture - music, graphics, video games, cinema, as well as theater, fashion, design and, of course, architecture.
