The world's first fully enclosed natural turf stadium - Forsyth Barr opened in Dunedin for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. The sports complex with a capacity of 30 thousand people, in addition to rugby, can also be used for football matches, and the fixed roof allows you to arrange entertainment events.
The architects of the Olympic Stadium for the London 2012 Games, Populus have come up with an innovative roofing for Forsyth Barr made of special thermoplastic with an ultraviolet filter that protects fans and football players from harmful radiation as well as from the vagaries of the weather. At the same time, the absolutely transparent material does not interfere with the penetration of sunlight from the rest of the spectrum, which makes it possible to plant ordinary grass and illuminate the stadium in a natural way.
The plastic roof, whose height reaches 47 m from the outside, that is, approximately the level of a 12-storey building, passes into the walls of the same transparent polymer, so that the viewers have the feeling of being in the open air. The latter is also facilitated by a certain angle of the seats.
