Designed to be the new home for the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), the building features the world's longest cantilever roof with an 85m extension and a size of 60m x 120m. Defying gravity, the console rests on a cone-shaped column that houses the main entrance and café.
The innovation of the structure is added by the fact that the “inside” of the roof console is covered with LED panels. During the days of the film festival, this surface acts as a screen for a dynamic light show, and can also serve as a "canvas" for artists working in the genre of video art.
The interior and exterior spaces of the building can accommodate up to 6,800 visitors. On 60 thousand m2, the complex houses cinemas, restaurants, a multifunctional auditorium with 1000 seats and numerous public areas.
Speaking at the opening of the film center on September 29, 2011, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said that with the new building, the Busan Film Festival will be included in the top three film festivals in the world.
