WIPO is the United Nations entity dealing with international agreements on creativity and copyright protection. A new building was opened next to his old building, so-called. international district of Geneva, next to the European UN office. The old and new buildings are connected by an underground corridor with glass ceilings and shiny reflective walls.
The building is almost entirely occupied by open plan offices for 500 employees, organized around three spacious atriums and along glazed facades. In addition, there are winter gardens and small atriums with a height of two floors, where the stairs are located. They are complemented by "informal" meeting areas on each floor. A large amount of light and greenery not only saves on artificial lighting, but also creates a favorable environment for communication between employees. On the ground floor there is a dining room for 300 people, a library and a conference center.
Green aspects of the project include the use of water from the nearby Lake Geneva to cool the premises, natural ventilation, improved insulation of glass facades and ceilings to protect against overheating.
