The Ponte Parodi project is part of the urban planning concept to include in the “body” of the city coastal industrial zones that have now lost their function. The withdrawal of industry outside the city limits allowed Genoa to return coastal territories to public space, uniting the city and the sea.
The Ponte Parodi pier is located between the commercial port, the yacht harbor and the public areas of the Old Port (Porto Antico) and the historic center of Genoa. Its reconstruction will create a developed infrastructure for the townspeople on a huge area of 13.22 hectares, which should become a point of attraction for both Genoa and the Liguria region as a whole. And, of course, the new complex "Ponte Parodi" provides a cruise terminal for tourists arriving in the city.
The spaces of the Ponte Parodi are united by internal passages, an open gallery cutting diagonally through the main volume, a seaside esplanade and a park that occupies the roof. A spectacular view of this park opens from the city side.
When viewed from the water, the complex is a horizontal structure, repeating the line of the hills surrounding the city. The white walls of Ponte Parodi are reminiscent of cruise ships, and the scale corresponds to the buildings of Genoa (its average height is approx. 20 m). The new building does not obscure the view of the old city, but, on the contrary, emphasizes its unique landscape.
