The Miami Museum of Art now bears the name of Jorge Perez, an entrepreneur who donated $ 35 million to the institution to build a new building and replenish the collection, as well as part of his collection of Latin American art. The said building is located near the ocean in the Museum Park, where in 2015 the Science Museum will also open - a project by Nicholas Grimshaw.

The architects of Herzog & de Meuron took into account the peculiarities of the local climate and raised the building on piles - in case of a hurricane and flood, occupying the space under the museum parking lot. A wide staircase leads from street level to a "veranda" that surrounds the building along the perimeter: it is covered by a roof with a large overhang, resting on thin supports. Green “brushes” hang from the roof: the famous creator of green facades, Patrick Blanc, designed them in collaboration with the local landscape bureau Arquitectonica Geo (a division of the Arquitectonica workshop). Brushes shade both the veranda and the museum façades, cooling them down and helping to reduce air conditioning costs.

The museum itself is a composition of blocks. On the first and second floors there are permanent exhibition halls, on the second there is also a place for temporary exhibitions. Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron arranged the museum halls without a "linear" route of inspection. They differ from each other in size and finishing materials, as well as openness to the outside or "tightness". In addition, works of art are planned to be displayed in the park and in the parking lot under the building.

The museum also has an auditorium, a shop and a cafe on the first floor, and an educational center and administrative premises on the third. The total area of the building is 11 148 m2, which is three times the size of the old building.
