Sounds are an integral part of our life, but sometimes they become too intrusive, annoying, uncomfortable. We have all come across a situation where neighbors or the noise on the street is heard louder than we would like. How can you get rid of the flow of unwanted sounds at least within the walls of your own home and make your life more comfortable?
Noises are different
People have accumulated enough experience in soundproofing rooms with building envelopes. Building acoustics helped them in this - a science that deals with the issues of protecting buildings and premises from noise. According to its main provisions, several types of noise are divided according to the mode of propagation: air, impact and structural. What are these noises and how to deal with them?
Airborne noise propagates through the air. The source of this type of noise is various loud sounds, for example, emitted by audio and video equipment, conversation. A particular case of structure-borne noise is impact noise, the sources of which are mechanical influences on the floor. For example, falling objects, loud stomping, hammer blows.
The propagation of airborne and impact noise also differs. Part of the sound wave dissipates during the propagation of airborne noise, but in the case of impact noise, the energy is completely transferred to the interfloor floor, while in addition there is an indirect sound transmission due to the transfer of sound energy from the floor to the adjacent walls.
Let us dwell in more detail on the fight against the propagation of impact noise through the interfloor ceiling.
Right choice
Effective sound insulation can significantly reduce the level of impact noise. When choosing a sound-insulating material, it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of noise propagation and find a technical solution that would be able to effectively insulate the floor. As practice shows, environmentally friendly non-combustible materials based on stone wool cope with this task most successfully. Good sound absorption of impact noise is possessed by TECHNOFLOR stone wool slabs manufactured by TechnoNICOL. The use of this high quality soundproofing material allows you to create a comfortable acoustic environment in your home. Effective sound absorption is achieved due to the fiber structure, which makes it possible to effectively damp the sound wave.
Another equally important property of TECHNOFLOR plates is their high strength, due to which the material is able to withstand a distributed load of 2,500 kilograms per 1 m.2… We can say with full confidence that a competently mounted floor with TECHNOFLOR slabs will withstand any home furniture, be it a sofa, armchairs or a bulky wardrobe.
What is a floating floor?
For the device of noise insulation of interfloor floors, the technology of "floating floor" is often used, which is very popular. This multi-layer construction is a set of materials that differ in characteristics, something like a "puff cake". Installation of such a floor is simple and free from wet processes. The floating floor got its name due to the absence of direct contact of the floor with the walls and floor slabs of the building, that is, the independent position of the system, which is a characteristic feature of this method of sound insulation. This technology significantly improves the sound insulation of the room, and also eliminates the consequences of shrinkage of the building structure. As you know, after the construction of a house, its enclosing structure shrinks for a certain period of time, which can cause cracks in the floors. Soundproofing technology "floating floor" just excludes these consequences.
Moreover, such a sound-insulating structure can be used when laying both ceramic tiles and parquet boards, laminate and other floor coverings. The advantages of the system make it more attractive in contrast to conventional technologies such as conventional screeds.
Installation principles
Let's consider the sequence of installation of the TN-POL Prof "floating floor" system:
The system includes: floor slab, sound-proof stone wool TECHNOFLOR slabs, screed, underlay and floor finish. TECHNOFLOR slabs are non-flammable, hydrophobic, heat and sound insulating stone wool slabs. They have high strength characteristics that make it possible to effectively use the material in floor construction with various types of screeds. If parquet boards or boards are used as a topcoat, then instead of a reinforced cement-sand screed, you can use a prefabricated screed made of sheets of gypsum fiber board, plywood, DSP, which are stacked in two layers apart.
Basic recommendations for the installation of the TN-POL Prof system:
- Prepare the base. In case of uneven surfaces, use a leveling screed.
- Lay the TECHNOFLOR stone wool slabs tightly to each other with a gap in the seams, selecting the thickness taking into account the required value of the impact noise reduction index. You can make a calculation using a soundproof calculator on the TechnoNICOL website,
- Install screed: prefabricated or cement-sand. The main requirement is that the screed should not be closely adjacent to the walls in order to exclude the possibility of the formation of "sound bridges" and worsen the sound insulation properties of the floor. To prevent this indirect transmission of sound, strips cut from TECHNOFLOR slabs with a height not lower than the final floor covering are installed along the perimeter of the floor. Fasten the prefabricated screed plates to each other with self-tapping screws, not forgetting to run the seams apart. When installing a cement-sand screed, it is necessary to lay a waterproofing layer on top of soundproof boards. Waterproofing is needed to prevent moisture from the screed slurry from getting into the mineral fiber of TECHNOFLOR boards. As a rule, waterproofing is made of polyethylene film.
- After the screed is installed, the floor covering can be laid.
The system of "floating floor" TN-POL Prof, reducing the height of the room by literally a few centimeters, will delight you with the result: silence and comfort all year round.
Important: By using various combinations of the thickness of the sound-insulating material TECHNOFLOR and various screeds, it is possible to achieve good insulation of impact noise, reducing its level up to 3-5 times. This is confirmed by the conclusion of the Research Institute of Building Physics (NIISF RAASN) on the topic: "Measurement of sound insulation properties of structures using stone wool produced by TechnoNICOL".
Whichever floor you choose for your house or apartment, it is important to correctly apply the selected materials and technical solutions.
