Concept contests

An open competition initiated by the Museum of Architecture is aimed at finding ideas for transforming the territory of the center of the capital in the Borovitskaya Square area into a museum cluster near the Kremlin walls. Today, the Moscow center lacks an intelligible navigation system, walking routes are intermittent, and cultural and art objects concentrated here exist separately from each other. The organizers of the competition propose to develop a concept for the formation of a new urban space - interconnected, accessible and continuous.

The Belgorod administration has initiated an open international competition "Quiet Center" for a project for the development of a quarter of the historical part of the city. The task of the contestants is to develop a concept for transforming an area of about 6 hectares into a high-quality urban space and thereby return the cultural and town-planning significance to the historical center, which was badly damaged during the Great Patriotic War. Currently, the site under consideration contains mainly two-story Stalinist houses and the later Khrushchev five-story buildings. At the same time, the old network of streets has been preserved, which existed at the time when the Belgorod fortress stood here, and after that - the monastery and the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Several years ago, the city authorities built a bell tower here and laid out a park with the designation of the foundations of the lost cathedral. And the Russian Orthodox Church plans to erect an administrative building on this territory. The main area is supposed to be given for business and premium housing with a height of no more than 20 m, since, according to the organizers, this should be one of the quietest and most peaceful places in the city. The presence of a sales function should be minimal - in the first floors of residential buildings. You should also provide places for recreation, walking areas and cafes. The result of the competition should be a master plan, which will further serve as the basis for the development of the site development. The competition is curated by Bart Goldhoorn.

DawnTown 2013 contestants are encouraged to come up with

a new symbol of Miami, similar to the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Opera House in Sydney. A modern and iconic object should reflect the characteristic features of a dynamically developing city that has changed greatly over the past decades, not get lost against the background of the existing multi-storey buildings and at the same time not come into conflict with the context. Bayfront Park, located in the very center of the city, was chosen as the design site. A forest of glass skyscrapers rises to one side of the site, and the Biscayne Bay embankment on the other. The organizers of the competition, the DawnTown team, hope that the new symbol of the city will become a center of attraction for tourists, which means that it should be positioned in such a way that beautiful views of the waters of the bay open from windows and observation decks.
