Sacromonte Landscape Hotel is located near the village of Pueblo Eden in the province of Maldonado, in the hills of eastern Uruguay. The hotel, designed by MAPA architects, combines wine and landscape components. The young vineyards form part of a picturesque landscape with north-facing rocky hillsides.
Instead of a single block of interconnected rooms, the hotel consists of 13 bungalows, connected instead of corridors and elevators by winding paths. The ensemble also includes a winery, a restaurant, a lobby with a reception, a terrace for wine tasting. There is also an open chapel and a network of walking paths among the vineyards.
Bungalows are prefabricated, modular, steel-framed buildings manufactured in the Montevideo factory in less than ten weeks. The rear façade is assembled from logs, recalling a woodpile as a sign of rural life. Adjacent to it is a bathroom, a kitchen and a reading and siesta corner. Behind a wooden partition, there is a living and sleeping area with panoramic glazing with an external mirrored surface, which allows the bungalow to seem to dissolve into the landscape. Each house sits on a local stone platform with a circular pool.
Sustainable components of the hotel project include prefabricated technology, low-emission glass, green roofs, renewable energy sources, as well as smart fertilization, organic vegetable garden, electric vehicle transportation, and an ecological wastewater treatment system.
