The ensemble of the "Bolshoi Theater", the Museum of Contemporary Art and the "Small Theater" (multifunctional hall) will appear on the shores of Lake Meixihu in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province. Three volumes will be located on a spacious "plaza", which will be complemented by an in-depth "courtyard" with restaurants and shops.
The Bolshoi Theater for 1800 spectators, designed for performances of international level, and the museum with three "petals" of volumes surrounding the central atrium should attract visitors "in shifts": in the evening and in the afternoon, respectively.
But truly round-the-clock activity in the new complex will be provided by the "small theater" for 500 seats, intended for commercial events - fashion shows, banquets and presentations, although small concerts and performances are also expected. Restaurants and shops located next to it also guarantee an influx of visitors 24/7.
The bureau "Coop Himmelb (l) ay" was also invited to participate in the closed competition (there were five participants in total). Austrian architects proposed to create public spaces around the buildings and on their roofs in the spirit of traditional Chinese gardens, but this did not bring them victory.
