The architects abandoned the traditional solution for such institutions - creating a neutral space that has nothing to do with context. On the contrary, they were inspired by the Arab-Spanish culture of Cordoba - and translated the diversity of its forms and motives into the language of modernity.
The building of the center is located on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, and it reflects its main facade. This surface of glass fiber reinforced concrete panels is dotted with polygonal niches, in some of which monochrome LED lamps are installed. Thus, the facade turns into a screen for media installations, and artists must take into account their reflection in the water surface.
In the planning, the architects used a 6-sided module (the solution is quite in the spirit of Islamic art), dividing the interior into rooms of three sizes - 150, 90 and 60 square meters, with walls made of rough concrete and "vaults" made of glass fiber concrete panels. In addition, there will be a black box auditorium and a passage along the main façade that unites all areas of the building.
The advantage of this interior layout is its flexibility. Located on the ground floor, artists' workshops and laboratories on the upper tier complement the hexagonal exhibition halls and can change function with them. Exhibitions can be shown in the workshop area, artists can create large works in the halls, while a media exhibition will be held in the audience. In each of the hexagons-galleries it is possible to demonstrate an independent project or, on the contrary, to combine them all in one exposition.
