As we already wrote in relation to another project submitted for the same training competition, we are talking about new construction on the territory of the former Yunost factory: the developer plans to occupy the main part of the site with commercial objects, although a cultural component is also envisaged. Note that none of the competitive projects is expected to be implemented.
Andrey Soloviev and Ivan Shevchenko considered that it was impossible to develop a high-quality project of one building without touching on the solution of the quarter as a whole. Therefore, the architects proposed a concept for the entire area of the new development, presenting it as a demonstration of their design approach, and not a specific action plan.
The reference point for the project was the structure of medieval buildings in European cities, which is comparable in scale to the quarters adjacent to Andriyivsky Uzviz, but more dense. The compositional solution was based on the "visual axis" passing through the site between the two dominants - St. Andrew's Church and the Frolovsky Monastery. The buildings of the new buildings are slightly shifted relative to the rectangular grid of the planning, which gives the building more dynamism and turns it into an intriguing “urban labyrinth” for the visitor.
The quarter provides for a multifunctional public space - a square with an amphitheater, a developed "street network" on two underground levels, where shops, cafes, cultural institutions, etc. are located. A similar program is at the first ground floors. An art center, offices, apartments, and a hotel are located in separate buildings.
