The Spanish architect won the architectural competition back in 2008, but it took a significant amount of time to select a contractor and raise funds: the project's budget totals 200 million zlotys (approx. 2 billion rubles), some of which were allocated by the EU. Construction should take 25 months.
The hall will be located in the Yordanka area, on the border of the old city - a UNESCO World Heritage Site; Nearby lies the green zone loved by the townspeople, which arose on the site of the demolished city fortifications. Therefore, the most important task for the architect was to reconcile the building with the context: a significant part of the building is placed underground, and its above-ground part itself seems to be part of the landscape. As a result, the future building will not be visible from the Vistula, from there a "classic" panorama of the historic center of Torun opens.
The interiors of the concert hall are decorated with red brick, a material typical of the old city, which also looks like a red "lining" of the building's facades made of light concrete.
Inside there will be two halls for 1000 and 300 seats. Thanks to their transformable structure, it is possible to host both concerts (symphonic, chamber or rock music) as well as congresses and lectures. In addition, the wall behind the stage of the larger hall can be opened, and then the audience is supplemented by the audience located outside.
