The azienki palace and park ensemble is one of the key sights of Warsaw, a monument of classicism of the 18th - early 19th centuries. However, part of its territory is in need of renovation, and the plan for it has become the subject of an international competition organized by the Polish ministries of culture and the environment. It was attended by 80 teams, of which 16 - from outside Poland. Among the latter were the winners - the Dutch Mecanoo, Delva Landscape Architects and landscape architect Michael van Gessel, who spoke together with the Polish workshop Jojko + Nawrocki Architekci.
The task of the competition was to create in Lazenok Park a "Garden of the XXI century" with an area of 2.5 hectares, which serves not only as a model of modern landscape architecture, but also as a visual aid for environmental education. In the interpretation of the winners of the competition, this is an undulating landscape that hides an exhibition pavilion with an area of 1800 m2… In this building of 4 halls with a modular layout - two large and two small - it is planned to arrange temporary exhibitions from the funds of museums based in the palaces and pavilions of Lazenok, as well as show exhibitions from abroad.
The halls will be illuminated through "oculus" - round openings in the roof, and this light will "filter" the foliage of trees and shrubs.
