Elastic Perspective, as this art initiative by local authorities is called, is set on the top of a green hill in Karnisseland, south of Rotterdam. Residents are encouraged to climb onto this "observation platform" - away from the nearby ring road and tram stop - and take a look at the metropolis in the distance.
The name alludes to the seeming remoteness of Rotterdam for the suburbs, in fact a few kilometers away or a short tram ride. However, the city is also separated from them by a ring of noisy and unattractive infrastructure.
This discrepancy between impression and reality is reflected in the idea of the work - the looped "staircase" seems endless, but in fact it is impossible to go around it in a circle: bending like a Mobius strip, its outer surface turns into an inner one.
