Flos. IC Lights - history of creation
The IC Lights range includes: tabletop, wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted and ceiling-mounted - all shaped like a sphere that balances perfectly on the end of the rod
Designer Mikael Anastassiadis describes the history of the creation of these lamps as follows: “I came across a video clip online about a juggler who manipulated balls in contact with his body. He rotated several balls, moving them along his hands and along the tips of his fingers. I was so mesmerized by the magic of his skill that suddenly the balls seemed completely motionless to me. It was this moment that I wanted to capture; that was my starting point. The initials IC come from the code that the English police use to determine the ethnicity of the person they stop on the street and when they report it to the police station. IC1 stands for White or North European type, IC2 stands for Mediterranean European / Spanish type, IC3 stands for African / Afro-Caribbean type of person, and so on. So it's a playful story to identify different design options."
Flos. String lights
String Lights allow you to apply different concepts of architectural space division
According to designer Michael Anastassiades, the following things inspired him to create this lamp: “When I ride a train and look out the window, I always see the wires connecting the power line poles. As we move past them at high speed, I see these perfectly parallel wires, and my heart skips with the amazing sense of order - how is this possible? It's so beautiful and so poetic how they connect power line poles while dividing the landscape. I wanted to transfer this picture and this order to the interior environment. It's like blueprints. I love the way people use light to indicate spaces, especially outdoors. If you remember a city square in the Mediterranean at night, there are wires with lamps hanging in a square from four masts. They seem to be announcing, "There's a party here." It is these lamps that represent activity.
And finally, the last the thing that is most practical for me is how to move the light when the points of electricity are always where you least want to see them … So how can you effortlessly and poetically take them wherever you want?"
Flos not only supplies lighting and interior design products, but also provides architects and lighting designers with complete advice, from project design to custom-sized lighting fixtures and systems, unique in limited editions. In a continuous search for new technologies, but never forgetting about the "poetic" side of the world, Flos demonstrates the ability to look to the future without losing touch with their traditions.
