The territory of the airport. Benito Juarez in Mexico City. Image: NASA via commons.wikimedia.org The Arquine International Architecture Competition has been held since 1998, last time 400 teams from 21 countries took part. This time, the organizers propose to answer the question: "What will happen to Benito Juarez International Airport after it becomes inoperative?"

The construction of a new international airport in the Texcoco area was recently announced. Thus, the territory of the current airport will turn into an urban area with the greatest potential in the country. This is 746 hectares, which can become a catalyst for the development and growth of the entire eastern zone of one of the most problematic and densely populated cities in the world.

Contestants will have to explore the potential of this space and propose options for its use - an interesting global challenge. Attention should be paid to environmental issues and improving communication between the periphery and the main transport arteries of the city, the historic center and the new airport. More information in English can be obtained at [email protected]

Dormitory Tietgenkollegie. Photo: Thomas Angermann via commons.wikimedia.org In recent years, the university cities of Denmark - Copenhagen, Aarhus and Aalborg - have experienced an influx of students. This is a very positive development, which, however, is putting pressure on the local housing market.

Participants of the competition are invited to solve the problem of student placement in these cities. Should we provide more favorable conditions for renting apartments or build new dorms and campuses? What should they be? Can they be built quickly and cheaply? What are the alternatives?

Texts and illustrations that correspond to the task of the competition are accepted for participation.
