Perhaps, at the end of its work, "Zodchestvo-2009" surprised everyone even more than at the opening. An invitation from a curator and a radical change of image, including a logo, white cubes of pavilions instead of a strip of different-sized stands - all this faded into the background when it became clear that from this year Zodchestvo intends to award all objects that have passed the preliminary selection of the jury with their diplomas of various merit. Thus, the 2009 festival received as many as 17 laureates. Isn't this the most weighty proof that, despite the economic crisis, Russian architecture continues not only to exist, but also to develop? If the curator Yuri Avvakumov needed to find some material embodiment of the Sustainability Index, then, perhaps, 17 winning projects are ideal for this role.
However, by and large, it remained a mystery whether the decision to “reward everyone” was an element of the previously developed concept of the renewed festival or a spontaneous decision of the jury. At the awards ceremony, the chairman of the jury, Sergei Kiselev, admitted that too different objects applied for each of the diplomas - both in terms of their functional purpose and area, and in terms of architectural design. For example, a student theater, a business center and the interior of a metro station competed for "Silver" in the "Buildings" section, in "Projects" an urban planning project, a private residential building and a large exhibition center met in one nomination. And although Zodchestvo always amazed at how different projects could end up in the final of this or that competition, for the first time it decided to smooth out this contradiction in the most peaceful and painless way, awarding not so much individual projects as a variety of typologies of Russian architecture as a whole.
Thus, the jury had to formulate more stringent criteria for evaluating high-quality architecture only when the time came to choose the main winner of Zodchestvo-2009, the owner of the Crystal Daedalus. In fact, there were three applicants for the main award of the festival - "Danilovsky Fort" by Sergei Skuratov, the Evgeny Gerasimov hotel on Ostrovsky Square in St. Petersburg and school No. 1414 with in-depth study of English on the street. Of the Soviet Army in Moscow, designed by JSC "ARST" (leader - K. M. Konovaltsev, GAP - O. K. Konovaltsev, architect - O. Tishchenko, chief designer - A. Rubinstein).
The first two objects are more than well known. "Danilovsky Fort" is a kind of quintessence of the creative method of Sergei Skuratov: rational planning and complex plastic volumes, the complexity of the window rhythm and the variety of brick texture, consoles with stained glass windows and a courtyard arranged on a stylobate. In Evgeny Gerasimov's portfolio of works, the hotel on Ostrovsky Square looks much less natural: it was built in the very center of the Northern capital, to the left of the famous Alexandrinka, and for the architect it became a unique opportunity to “get into the skin” of St. Petersburg historicism. The jury of Zodchestvo-2009, by the way, separately thanked him for this: “an architect working in a modern style took a step towards St. Petersburg and created a building that speaks of its architectural history,” reads the decision to award the hotel building a Golden Diploma ".
And if "Danilovsky Fort" and Gerasimov's building were repeatedly published in the professional press and more than once they were awarded professional photo shoots, then School No. 1414 on Soviet Army Street is an object opened to the general public by Zodchestvo. For a closer acquaintance with the school, the members of the festival jury even went on an excursion to it, and because of how effectively its internal premises were planned and the facades were solved (and they are white planes, which are dynamically invaded by large-scale glazed surfaces and scarlet elements of "Suprematist" decor), were completely delighted. Undoubtedly, there have never been any school buildings with such a bright personality in Moscow, and it seems that the victory for this object was brought not by the architectural solution as such, but by its combination with the typology. Whatever one may say, business centers and hotels, including those of high quality from the point of view of architecture, are built in our country by an order of magnitude more than educational institutions. The jury members, however, did not say a word about the social aspect of their choice, insisting that Daedalus was awarded for "the quality of an architectural object in all its manifestations." And Sergei Kiselev even suggested that all those present must go to school # 1414 on an excursion in order to experience "a great feeling of joy."
Considered the main favorite of the competition, "Danilovsky Fort", thus, was awarded only the "Golden Diploma" "Zodchestvo-2009". He was ranked among the best buildings of the last two years for "overcoming traditional geometric attitudes and the development of a plastic language." Another object of Sergei Skuratov, the Barkli Plaza business center, received a Silver Diploma, and the jury members did not hide the fact that they thought for a very long time which of the complexes should be awarded "gold" and which one - "silver", since they are in no way inferior to each other. to a friend both in quality and in the imagery of the architectural solution. The assignment of the serial number “two” to “Barkli-Plaza” (for “the techniques of modern architectural abstract language, with the help of which it was possible to integrate the building into the historic embankment”) can be considered a tribute to the relatively modest area of this object - “Danilovsky Fort” is almost twice as spacious.

Silver diplomas were also received by the training center of the Russian Academy of Theater Arts (GITIS) (general designer - State Unitary Enterprise MNIIP "Mosproekt-4", interior design - Architectural workshop of A. Asadov) - "for beauty, game of columns and brilliant solution of functions", - and St. Petersburg metro station "Spasskaya" (LLC "Architectural workshop of Rapoport EM" and JSC NIPII "Lenmetrogiprotrans").
Bronze diplomas of the Zodchestvo-2009 festival went to the authors of the trade and exhibition complex on pl. K. Faberge in St. Petersburg (LLC "A. Len"), the interiors of the St. Petersburg workshop "Studio 44" and the residential complex "Crystal" on the street. Gogol in Kazan ("Architectural workshops of D. Velichkin and N. Golovanov").
In the "Projects" section, another project by Sergey Skuratov Architects - "Garden Quarters", was awarded a gold diploma. While receiving his diploma, Sergey Aleksandrovich expressed the hope that he would contribute to the implementation of this project, because “there is no better reward for an architect than to see the joy of people living in his houses”. The second gold laureate in this nomination was the project for the construction of a new complex of ChSU and the project of the Faculty of Medicine of ChSU in Grozny (Stil group of companies).
Silver diplomas among projects were awarded to a dwelling house made of laminated veneer lumber on the Gorky reservoir in the Nizhny Novgorod region (authors - S. Tumanin, E. Kulikova), the Center for Specially Protected Natural Areas of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra, Beloyarsky (ZAO City-Arch) and the project planning of the territory of the Saperny Island Russian peninsula (JSC "Giprogor").
Bronze diplomas in the projects section were awarded to "Private dwelling house 2" (authors - R. Tsopanov, T. Kudziev), an individual dwelling house in the village of Komarovo (LLC A. Len) and a business center on ul. Tsyurupa in Ufa (JSC Design Institute "Bashkirgrazhdan project").
In addition, several architects, whose contribution to the development of modern Russian architecture was especially appreciated by the Zodchestvo-2009 jury, were awarded medals of the Union of Architects of Russia “For High Architectural Skill” named after Vasily Bazhenov.
