Bureau ON-A has been working on the theme of ecosystem restoration and “biobuilding” for 15 years. Now the architects have turned their attention to their native Barcelona, where, according to them, there are just over six square meters of green space per inhabitant, while the WHO recommends nine. They also cite a study by the Barcelona scientists of Philadelphia: in their opinion, with a population of 1.6 million and an area of 347.6 km2, this poorest and highest mortality of the 10 largest US cities could reduce the number of premature deaths by 400 a year if would have fulfilled my plan - to bring up to 30% of its total area covered with tree crowns.

The same number of people live in Barcelona, but the territory is more than three times less. With such a density, there is not much free space for landscaping, but the architects still found one thing - the famous stadium of the Barcelona football club - Camp Nou. The fenced area, closed to citizens except for the time of matches and concerts, is almost devoid of vegetation (only 8%), 32% built up, 10% occupied by sports facilities, and half of it is a hard surface (50%). At the same time, the main area is not occupied by a stadium at all, but by parking, offices, leisure facilities, a restaurant, a museum, a multifunctional pavilion and entrance facilities.

According to the authors of this “fantastic” project, all these structures can be closed from above by a park or even a forest. This will not interfere with the operation of the stadium, it and the green zone will be completely independent. So, unused by the townspeople, in fact, the private territory will be returned to the city (now it cuts the Les Corts area and the university town like an island), and the park will become a kind of compensation for the residents of the adjacent quarters, who invariably suffer from the collapse of infrastructure during the days of mass events.

According to ON-A's calculations, the new fleet will produce 15 tons of oxygen and absorb 25 tons of carbon per day. For effective functioning, it is proposed to use the technology of the "Internet of Things" type, when sensors will control irrigation, monitor the situation and even "anticipate" possible problems. Given the possible water shortage, the architects propose to use the relief drops to create two reservoir lakes for collecting rainwater.

The authors of the project admit that there were examples of similar projects before: for example, "green" stadiums were proposed during

last competition for the Olympic arena in Tokyo Parisians DGT and the Hamburg workshop gmp.
