A new residential building with an original architectural concept has appeared in the Belgian city of Ypres. The traditional façade is wrapped in a white blanket. The façade palette is limited to shades of gray bricks, while curved ROCKPANEL stone wool panels create a “blanket” effect. The house was designed by the Belgian architectural firm Vyvey & Partners and was implemented by the construction company Ons Onderdak.
One of its authors, Jan Vyvey, talks about the concept of the project: “Our house looks relatively small considering that it accommodates 12 apartments. Three different shades of gray brick give each part its own unique look. It seems that these are three large apartments. And the white panels form a kind of cover around the building, combining these three parts into a single whole. We chose white, which not only creates a luminous aura around the building, but also contributes to a wonderful play of light and shadow on the facade."

They are easy to bend and cut, easy to install and operate, and most importantly, they combine the strength of stone and the pliability of wood. “The material of the panels allowed us to create graceful curved structures and emphasize the expressiveness of the image of the entire building. Thanks to this, we managed to create a beautiful façade with a play of lines,”comments Jean Vivi.
Another reason why the architects preferred ROCKPANEL was the ability to use panels to decorate the end of the facade, as well as the entire perimeter of the building. “Thanks to ROCKPANEL, we were able to give the building the right accents. We also used panels not only for the facades, but also for the terraces, balustrades and stair railings. The ease of material handling has contributed to simplified detailing and reduced costs,”concluded Jean Vivi.
