What question, comment or ideas do you remember?
- This is precisely the question of whether an architect needs philosophy and philosophical culture today. The answer is clear - it is not needed in order to serve the customer's requirements and meet the norms of municipal bureaucratic control. And for those who see in architecture the sphere of comprehension of earthly life and death, the moments of the present and the breadth of the past, it is extremely necessary.
But my answer to this question sounded in a void, since the entire modern system of architectural education is focused not on the meaning of life and death, but on hygiene, comfort and fashion.
That is, for mass industrial design.
No original architect, theorist, or philosopher can change these guidelines. Therefore, I believe that the coming change in the understanding of planetary architecture and planetary civilization can only happen as a miracle, as the will of the Supreme Reason.
I associate this turn with the rethinking of the planetary fate of mankind and the possible birth of the cult of the Earth as our planet, without pinning special hopes on cosmic consciousness. Ours, the inner becomes for me a synonym for the Earthly.
We just have to either wait and prepare ourselves for such a metamorphosis, or forget about it and do our daily affairs, not really thinking about the meanings of life and death.
Therefore, returning to the common Vitruvius triad "benefit-strength-beauty", I see in it only trivial non-professional content, which, under the influence of other magical categories, such as, for example, "faith-hope-love" in my theoretical scheme, turns into the triad of “substance – norm and scale”.
But elucidation of the meanings of this triad requires a radical restructuring of professional thinking and the separation of architectural education programs, the design part of which does not deal with immortality, and the architectural part only finds its justification in it.
