Central station in Bologna, Italy
In June 2013, a new high-speed railway station was opened in Bologna. Then the first of several stages of construction of the ultra-modern station was completed, which is scheduled for completion in 2016. Arata Isozaki and Andrea Maffei designed the aboveground section of the central station in Bologna, while the underground section with the high-speed railway station was designed by Italferr (Gruppo FS Italiane).
The Bologna high-speed railway station is a giant underground space located next to the central station and connected to it by three underground passages. The underground section is about 640 meters long, 56 meters wide and 23 meters deep. It has three levels. The lower floor - High Speed - is located under the station square at a depth of 23 meters. It houses four high-speed monorails and two platforms. The middle floor is located at a depth of 15 meters - there are ticket machines, information desks, newsagents, cafes and restrooms. The Kiss & Ride floor (not yet open) is located at a depth of 7 meters and is an underground street stretching along the station and connected to several city streets and three parking lots. Taxis, private cars and ambulances will be able to stop on this “street”.
Italferr is committed to environmental responsibility, which is why the construction of the new station in Bologna uses high-strength and durable materials that are resistant to wear and tear and chemical attack. It also uses LED lighting, which cuts energy consumption by about half, which helps to reduce not only maintenance costs, but also the harmful impact on the environment.
The walls on the lower level, where the paths and platforms are located, are faced with ceramic sheets Kerlite 3plus Over, Office (COTTO DESTE OVER OFFICE). Each of them is 100 x 300 cm in size and 3.5 mm thick. Such a large format of the ceramic reduces the number of seams, and thanks to its 3.5 mm thickness, it can be bent and used for curved surfaces. Moreover, it does not pose a threat to the environment.
Today, the result of the use of this modern ceramic material can be seen in Moscow.
Transition between the stations "Novoyasenevskaya" and "Bitsevsky Park"
The transitional lobby between the Novoyasenevskaya and Bitsevsky Park stations was abandoned for over 35 years until the need arose after the construction of a new station on the Butovskaya line according to the design of Metrogiprotrans OJSC. Once upon a time, the walls here were faced with snow-white Koelgin marble. However, this rock tends to "rust" over time, so smudges appeared on the surface of the stone, and the once magnificent marble has lost its original appearance.
ARCH-SKIN ceramics were chosen for the new wall cladding, namely LAMINAMRUS Collection Bianco 3000 x 1000 x 3.5 mm and COTTO D'ESTE Buxy Carbon 3000 x 1000 x 3.5 mm. The key arguments in favor of this material were its low cost in comparison with natural stone and technical properties: its sheets weigh very little (1m2 - only 7 kg) and are easy to cut. Only seven working days for a team of five people were spent on the facing of the crossing.
The architects of the new metro station Nikolay Shumakov and Andrey Nekrasova commented on their work with ARCH-SKIN ceramic sheets: which will open this winter - I wonder how he will behave outside. After all, laboratory tests are one thing, and field tests are quite another. We want to show the Moscow metro all the possibilities of ARCH-SKIN ceramics and hope for the widest use of this ceramics at other metro stations under construction”.
ARCH-SKIN ceramics are super strong, large format and lightweight ceramics. It is certified by the European Green Building Council and is used in the construction of facilities with special operating conditions, such as public buildings, airports, sports complexes. It is also used in shipbuilding and aircraft construction. ARCH-SKIN innovative ceramics are used as flooring, walls and roofs, for cladding adhesive facades and steps, in the manufacture of furniture and interior accessories. It is suitable for cladding curved facades and walls. The properties of ARCH-SKIN ceramics allow it to be produced not in small-format tiles, but in sheets up to 360 cm x 120 cm in size and from 3 to 5.6 mm thick.
ARCH-SKIN ceramics can decorate the interiors of metro stations in Italy and Russia. The potential here is really wide, and perhaps we will soon see it, for example, on such "beauties" as "Solntsevo" and "Peredelkino".
