Dubbed Copenhagen Arena, it will be located in the southern part of the new district of Erestad. The proximity of the metro station, however, will provide convenient communication with the city center, which will make the stadium a popular venue for sports and concerts of city and even national importance.
However, the architects provided for the construction and the second function - a public center for the residents of Estad. Sports grounds, a green area and public spaces will be created around the stadium; the foyer can be used for exhibitions and fairs.
The building consists of two parts: a curvilinear "base" with cozy niches for the rest of the townspeople, and the upper part with a glass facade covered from outside with golden terracotta profiles. This durable and eye-catching material should add a soft feel to the arena, while glazing will provide natural light to the foyer. Where the “top” rises above the “bottom” is the main entrance.
The interior space can be transformed in a variety of ways, depending on specific tasks: with different configurations, it will be able to accommodate from 12,500 to 15,000 spectators.
Construction is scheduled for 2013–2015. The rivals of 3XN in the final of the closed competition were the bureau of Norman Foster and Nicholas Grimshaw.
