The structure appeared in the new center (Ortsmitte) of Bleibach, which was created from the baker's estate acquired by the city as part of the state urban development program.
Under the motto "Ort schafft Mitte" (place creates a center) Heimerl has reconstructed four historic houses, turning one of them into a community center (Bürgerhaus). Also, a new square was arranged there and a concert hall was erected - very small (560 m2) and half buried in the ground so as not to disturb the context.
Bleibach is located in the Bavarian Forest, a mountain range on the border with the Czech Republic. Heimerl was born in the area and strives to preserve and develop its architectural traditions. One of them is the widespread use of natural stone and wood: the facade was faced with granite, and the foyer was sheathed with wood.
Still, the main thing in the project was concrete: the walls of the structure were cast on site using a very complex formwork, which made it possible to achieve high acoustic qualities of the hall.
Visitors enter the building via a staircase that leads underground next to its protruding top. The foyer not only accommodates the bar, cloakroom, etc., but also leads the listener along a "fascinating route" around and, finally, into the volume of the hall.
The hall looks very bright thanks to the numerous LED lamps hidden in its folded surface; Acoustic panels are installed in the same recesses, absorbing bass, and the situation with mid-frequency sounds is improved by the unevenness of the rough concrete walls.
The steel seats seem to float in the air thanks to the lighting effect: LEDs and acoustic panels are installed under them in the stepped area of the "amphitheater". In fact, the seats of the spectators are supported by "swords" -consoles.
