In particular, the participants need to propose the concept of the area in front of its campus, the entrance pavilion, as well as work on the transformation of some of the facilities that are located on the campus. Ideas (sketches, drawings, videos) and project proposals are evaluated separately.

Gallaudet University is the only bilingual liberal arts institution in the world to offer curriculum and research programs for deaf and hard of hearing students in both English and American Sign Language (ASL).

The historic core of the campus was designed by F. L. Olmsted, author of Central Park in New York, in 1866.
