The workshop "Rural Urbanism" ("Rural Urbanism") was held in the Yaroslavl region from 25 to 29 August. The organizers were TDI (Territorial Development Institute) in conjunction with the master's program "DUE" (Design of Urban Ecosystems).
The program was led by curator Markus Appenzeller, a renowned Dutch architect and urbanist, together with tutors: Maria Belova, Yana Golubeva, Arseny Konnov and Natalia Khomutova.
The main questions that the researchers faced were: how to involve young and active people in the development of out-of-town territories, how to breathe life into out-of-town, rural areas and how to maintain a balance between town and country. In addition to students and graduates of architectural universities from Moscow, Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg, the seminar was attended by ecologists, economists, sociologists, that is, representatives of those disciplines that are closely related to urban studies and the very concept of "Urbanism".
In the course of the work of interdisciplinary teams, more than 30 potential directions for the development of the territory were identified, which took shape in 5 conceptual proposals.
Offer number 1. Sloboda-freedom
Authors: Ekaterina Kiseleva, Elena Shmonina, Alisa Mustafina, Ruslan Kulikov, Anton Podgorbunsky, Anastasia Tsebro
As an impetus for the transformation of the territory, it was proposed to attract people whose life is associated with creativity, work with hands: artists and artisans. To attract them, a “creative core” is formed, in which special conditions are provided, for example, free use of workshops, fairs and other events are held here. Starting with attracting people of creative professions, the guys "untwisted" further scenarios for the development of the territory, up to its complete transformation into a weekend theme park, where everyone can try themselves as a blacksmith or baker.
Offer number 2. Yaroslavl farmer
Authors: Margarita Tyurina, Oleg Plotnitsyn, Tatiana Adamenko, Daniil Korolev, Gleb Cherdovskikh, Irina Ilyushchenko
In this concept, the idea of promoting healthy lifestyles and ecological products is taken as a starting point. A common control center has been conceived on the territory, a common brand is being developed, play farms are created, where you can familiarize yourself with the process of making products, and children can play with animals. The common management center also conducts PR activities in the online space, thus expanding the demand for potential high-quality products located on the territory of farms.
Offer No. 3. FreshGrad
Authors: Kirill Tikhonov, Alexander Kiselev, Nika Fomina, Daria Pevzner, Alena Dubikova, Anna Komina
The concept also draws attention to the need for a common brand and centralized development of the territory, at the same time, the emphasis is on creating a special "rural city" that combines access to necessary services with wide opportunities for suburban living, various typologies of housing are proposed, both for the permanent population and for tourists.
Offer No. 4. Lyutov Cocktail or Social Mix
Authors: Ilya Shanikov, Nikita Kolbovsky, Natalia Nikolaeva, Lyudmila Shtern, Irina Aleksandrova
The main emphasis is made on the fact that the territory already has a rather heterogeneous composition of living users. An approach was proposed according to which the development of the territory is considered as a process of interaction of these groups (for example, the local population and summer residents) and the search for a symbiosis of their interests. The project developed a methodology for the development of territories based on the use of the current potential of human resources. This mechanism is a universal tool for the development of such territories.
Offer No. 5. Everyone to the farm
Authors: Dmitry Kashuba, Anastasia Myakinina, Konstantin Filonenko, Olga Kaverina, Daria Bliznyuk
One of the key topics of discussion was the question of the need to change the image of a modern Russian farmer. The new farmer must be a respected person who manages the rural areas. In order to raise such a farmer, the guys suggested organizing a farming school, the graduates of which later receive the adjoining territories on lease for organizing farms, forming a strong community. And only then, the farmers who got on their feet, disperse throughout Russia to raise new lands.
The choice of the real direction of development of the territory depends on many factors, but I would like to note one thing: we are at an interesting stage of development, when fatigue from the city, bustle and haste make each of us think - and not go closer to nature. And here ideas that even today may seem overly optimistic may well become tomorrow's reality.
