On August 13, 2015, the International Roof Landscapers Association (IGRA), during a round table, held an Internet discussion of issues related to the creation and distribution of green spaces in public buildings.

The participants in the discussion were very active. This fact suggests that the topic of decorative landscaping in the conditions of dense urban development remains extremely relevant today. Like any issue of concern to society, it is accompanied by many discussions, constructive proposals, clarifications and theses introduced during the discussion by the participants of public hearings. For example, Andrej Clements believes that it is necessary to create such conditions so that a green roof is available to every owner of real estate, regardless of the form of ownership. And the proliferation of sustainable architecture could be facilitated by the inclusion of exploitable roofs in construction projects as an obvious, economically viable method of roofing.

Another panelist, David Madox, suggested a more conscious approach to the greening of public buildings. He emphasizes: first of all, it is worth conducting a thorough monitoring of technical and government estimates of the estimated cost of green areas in order to know in advance how much their creation and further maintenance will cost.

At the same time, Mark Simmons is concerned about the quality of construction of such ecosystems in regions with hot climates. In his opinion, gardeners of buildings located in dry areas need to improve the characteristics of moisture retention by the roofing system and try to choose plants that are more adapted to climatic characteristics.

As a result, the scales of the discussion leaned towards the impressive qualities of green roofs - their environmental friendliness, aesthetic appeal, and extreme usefulness. Karla Ducking and Wolfgang Ansel believe that society should be aware of the high value of such open space available to humans. At the same time, Mariam Akbarian expressed the idea that considerable investments will be needed for the mass distribution of plant roofs on public buildings.

An important thesis was also voiced by Carrie Ross. This participant of the IGRA roundtable suggests that the first step for putting the construction of exploited roofs on stream could be the creation of tax incentives for owners wishing to implement green architecture. And the second is his expression of public gratitude for the new, aesthetically pleasing forms of urban landscapes.
