Archi.ru continues a series of articles about Skolkovo residential quarters: we have already published materials about UNK project quarter # 10 and Agence d'Architecture Anthony Bechu quarter # 11. All these projects are the result of an architectural competition that ended in 2012.
Quarter No. 9 according to the BRT RUS project differs from the two neighboring ones in larger buildings: these are 4- and 5-storey buildings. Their project develops the home4 type, which the head of the BRT workshop Hadi Tehrani designed and implemented in
Hamburg and Cologne; it is based on a modular principle that speeds up and reduces the cost of construction, which also provides variability in the layout.
Block 9, round in plan, is filled with "cubes" arranged in a checkerboard pattern. The competition project provided for the construction of 14 "cubes" buildings and a public center, but then the number of residential buildings was reduced to 13. Their square bases are combined with a similar landscape solution, where individual "squares" and "rectangles" are raised and greened, while others remaining on ground level, paved.
The main public and transit space runs through the quarter, with public and semi-public green areas adjacent to it, and private gardens. The architects paid special attention to the pedestrian connections of the complex with the park area that is common for the whole Skolkovo area. The underground floors of the houses can be used for storing bicycles, baby carriages, etc., it is also possible to accommodate consumer services enterprises there.
The appearance of the main facades is determined by glazed loggias; on the end faces, the glazing area is much smaller. The facades will be covered with fiber-reinforced concrete panels, it is planned to install insulating glass units. An important environmental component of the project is the green roofs of all buildings, which will improve their insulation; Also, the buildings are thoughtfully oriented to the cardinal points, environmentally friendly recyclable materials are used during construction, etc.
