According to the results of the competition of alternative projects "For sleep" ("Sleeping"), 3 winners were selected and 12 were awarded honorable mentions. Among the winners there are also Russians: Moscow Architectural Institute students Alexey Snetkov, Katya Shomesova, Anastasia Popova. The participants developed the concept of non-traditional hotels for sleeping, and they could choose their hypothetical location, scale and dimensions themselves. The winning projects demonstrate different approaches to solving the problem: from fantastic projects to more practical and even business-oriented strategies: a mobile hotel, a vacation with a grandmother, a place for psychedelic dreams under the influence of drugs. The competition projects were selected by a jury consisting of Nunu Brandan Costa (Brandão Costa Arquitectos), Inanch Eray (Eray Carbajo Architects) and Filippo Maria Doria (TU Delft).

In the future, the organizers plan to launch a series of nine competitions aimed at rethinking traditional approaches to performing architectural tasks - "For Sleep" was only the first sign. They call their project "non-architectural" (Non Architecture), urging to throw off the ship of modernity the traditional typology of buildings - at least in the framework of a "paper competition".

Hotel "Find yourself" / Alexey Snetkov, Katya Shomesova, Anastasia Popova

Find yourself hotel

In this project, the hotel becomes not a destination, but the very essence of travel. The authors came up with a network of white structures scattered around the globe with a mirrored box inside. The boundaries between the building and the landscape are blurred, thanks to which the guest achieves complete unity with nature.

The Skyline project is a system of sleeping cabins that float above Rio de Janeiro at 400 meters. After boarding the car of the air hotel, guests will travel over the city at night: they will see the center of Rio, its famous beaches and coastal mountains, and when it comes time to go to bed, the cabin will hang somewhere between the lights of the big city and the starry veil.

At my grandmother's / Lewis Martinez Ramirez

Granny's functional / Lluis Martinez Ramirez

A new type of service in the hospitality industry, for those who are nostalgic for childhood: a hotel where grandparents live. Seniors receive shelter, care and company in exchange for maintaining a warm, homely atmosphere in the hotel. The authors believe that this idea will be especially relevant for China, where many elderly people were left without the support of loved ones due to the demographic policy of the state.

Balloon Night / Zheng Cui, Xiang Yu

Ballon Dream / Zheng Cui, Siyang Yu

This inn rises into the air every night and falls to the ground every morning thanks to the balloon to which it is attached. The hovering gondola has the necessary amenities: bed, mini-bathroom, heating equipment; the rest can be found on the ground in the camp to which the balloon is tied. Accommodation in this hotel will not cost a penny, but you can book a room only after completing the quest: the location of the hotel (by the way, it constantly moves and can be located anywhere in the world) is kept secret, and its coordinates must be guessed, for this on the website a list of leading questions has been posted. To test their guess, guests will have to travel in search of a floating hotel. It is worth noting that those who make mistakes will not be disappointed: they will receive monetary compensation in order to continue their vacation elsewhere.

Now, when moving from city to city, travelers will not need to look for a new place to stay and transport luggage. The hotel train, which transports guests on itself, combines the comfort of a traditional hotel with the mobility of a vehicle. Modular units, like ordinary train carriages, can be uncoupled, rearranged between themselves, and guests of a mobile hotel can, depending on the route, get off the train and change to another.

Hotelbox / Camilla Vässmar Frick, Ossian Quigley-Berg

This team of architects proposes not to erect new buildings to accommodate tourists, but to place them in existing ones: in museums, stadiums, zoos or aquariums and other "tourist" places. To do this, you just need to unfold the corrugated cardboard structure, designed in the traditional form of the house.

The authors also propose to increase the income of owners of existing buildings by placing night hotels there. Furniture stores are ideal for this purpose, according to the team of young architects. After ten in the evening, the doors of the store will open again, but not for customers, but for guests who are looking for an inexpensive haven for the night. You can choose a bed and bed linen through a special application on your smartphone.

Rempod Hotel / Brandon Large

Rempod / Brandon Large

By 2035, due to the colossal increase in the level of competition, the number of working hours of the population will double, and the duration of sleep will be only 3 hours. For this occasion, Brandon Large came up with a relaxation capsule where guests can recover in just one REM sleep instead of the usual four. Hence the name of the hotel: REM - rapid eye movement - REM sleep, pod - capsule. This goal can be achieved with the help of sensory deprivation: the guest will be immersed in a liquid medium with a density of 1.25 kg / m3composed of water high in magnesium sulfate. Thanks to this solution and a special mask, the guest will be able to keep his head above the water, while being at rest. Complete relaxation will be ensured by soundproofing, lack of sunlight and a comfortable temperature: exactly 37 °.
