The building appeared on the banks of the Hudson River in Manhattan. The architects call it courtscraper, combining the words court and skyscraper: this reflects its hybrid typology - a mixture of a Copenhagen house with a courtyard and a New York skyscraper. In the center of the building, rectangular in plan, there is a rectangular courtyard: there, on an area of more than 2000 m2, there is a garden that imitates the famous Central Park in terms of the proportions of the site and the style of landscape design. The authors of the mini-park project are Starr Whitehouse; 80 trees have been planted there, in total 47 local plant species have been used. At the same time, one of the corners of the building reaches a height of 137 m, which allowed VIΛ 57 West to receive this year the International Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Environment (CTBUH) award as the best skyscraper in the Americas.
Due to the complex configuration of angles raised to different heights, the structure is perceived from different points in a completely different way, the park is visible from the street (although only residents can still get there), and the rays of the low setting sun illuminate the entire courtyard. In addition, river views have been preserved for neighboring houses, and the height difference between low buildings to the south of VIΛ 57 West and towers to the west and north is mitigated.
Apartments are equipped with loggias, terraces and balconies, allowing you to admire the views of the city and the river. The lower tiers of the building are connected with the park and are occupied by salons, halls for various events, a room for movie screenings, gyms, a swimming pool and other infrastructure facilities. Also on street level there will be a restaurant, a cinema and a dog goods store open to all citizens.
In total, the residential complex has 32 floors and 709 apartments; the total area of VIΛ 57 West is 77,202 m2.
